Interactive water has already been implemented, a few years back, with the introduction and implementation of touch screens and motions sensors. But a company from Japan has recently been working on a project called “Aqua Top”. This features a completely realistic water based screen, without the need of any touch-screen technologies to implement the displays.

This Aqua Top project uses the following set of hardware’s to display and project the life-like water interactivity –

1) Microsoft Kinect Depth Camera – It is a motion sensing gadget created by Microsoft that enables controlling the user’s interactions with the system.
2) Opaque Bathwater – A special powder (like chalk powder, milk powder, etc.) mixed with any regular water, to make it opaque in nature.
3) A Projector – A regular projector that would be needed to project the graphical screen on any surface.
4) A PC – A personal computer to have the Aqua Top software running and making the proper use of the other above mentioned utilities, to provide the users with a realistic and interactive display platform.

This project breaks down the needs and barrier of a solid physical screen and provides the users with a fully interactive water system and intuitive digital experience, even to the regular users, right inside their bathtub. Aqua Top also enhances the ability and capabilities of a virtual reality system.

The special areas that Aqua Top project would help to be enhanced are as follows –

1) Virtual Reality – This project would largely help the virtual reality developers and designers by providing them an another level of user interactions, that can be used.
2) Interactive Gaming – Gaming industry now would be able to directly design graphics and games that the users could play without the requirements and necessities to have any separate consoles or gaming gadgets.
3) Reduced Screen Price – The cost of developing the screen has been hugely reduced, as this gadget uses regular water and a powder mixed to it, to make the water opaque.
4) Dynamic Screen Size – The Aqua Top lets you to dynamically choose your size of vessel that you would like to project the screen on.

So, with the changing world and upgradation in technologies, project Aqua Top’s interactive water would be one of the best chosen gadget over the regular display devices (like LCD, LED, etc.), as this technology is way simpler, will be easily available and very less costly. This project is still in its prototype phase and will be fully released soon.
